Are you curious about postgraduate research and considering taking the next step in your academic journey? The UNIQ+ Research Internship offers you a unique opportunity to experience life as a postgraduate student at the University of Oxford. This seven-week programme, running from Monday, 7 July to Thursday, 21 August 2025, provides an immersive research experience designed to boost your confidence, skills, and future prospects.

What Is UNIQ+?

UNIQ+ is more than an internship—it’s your chance to engage in a hands-on research project while building connections with Oxford’s researchers, academic staff, and postgraduate students. Over the course of the programme, you’ll:

  • Undertake a research project in a department aligned with your interests.
  • Attend training sessions to develop key research and transferable skills.
  • Participate in information sessions and social events that introduce you to the Oxford community.

This experience is designed to help you understand postgraduate research, enhance your CV, and prepare for future academic applications.

Benefits of Participating in UNIQ+

UNIQ+ is designed to support and inspire talented individuals who might face barriers to postgraduate study for reasons beyond academic ability. As part of the programme, you’ll receive:

  • Paid Internship: A stipend of £3,300 for the seven-week programme, covering potential summer earnings and travel expenses.
  • Free Accommodation: Single-room accommodation in Oxford for the duration of the internship.
  • Research Skills Development: Opportunities to gain practical research experience under the guidance of academic staff, post-doctoral researchers, and current DPhil (PhD) students.
  • Career Preparation: Training in transferable skills, such as presentation techniques, and guidance on making competitive postgraduate applications.

Programme Structure

  1. Induction: The programme begins with an induction to introduce you to Oxford, your research project, and your fellow interns.
  2. Research Project: You will work full-time on your chosen project in one of Oxford’s divisions: Medical Sciences, Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS), Humanities, or Social Sciences.
  3. Supervision and Support: Regular supervision will be provided by academic staff and researchers to guide your progress.
  4. Final Presentation: At the end of the programme, you will present your findings and submit a report summarizing your research.

Who Can Apply?

They plan to offer up to 130 UNIQ+ Research Internships to eligible candidates. Applications are encouraged from individuals who demonstrate talent and commitment but face challenges in continuing to postgraduate study. Before applying, ensure you meet the eligibility requirements for 2025.
