UNITAR Global Youth Scholars Development Programme 2025 for young changemakers: (Deadline 31 October, 2025)

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) has officially opened applications for the 2025 Global Youth Scholars Development Programme. This international initiative invites young people aged 18 to 24 from around the globe to take part in a unique learning experience that equips them with the skills and knowledge to evaluate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their communities. Participants will be guided through mentorship, virtual instruction, and real-world practice to understand how local actions contribute to global development objectives.

The programme unfolds over several phases, beginning in June 2025 and running through February 2026. Young scholars will engage in monthly online sessions focused on methodologies for SDG evaluation, techniques for community-driven monitoring, and the use of digital platforms to support their assessments. These interactive lessons are delivered by United Nations professionals and experts in sustainable development.

From July to December 2025, participants will apply their training to assess the progress of sustainability goals within their own local contexts. Using the tools and strategies gained during the virtual sessions, they will carry out case studies to identify challenges and successes related to SDG implementation. Additionally, those interested may choose to join optional in-person visits to international hubs such as Geneva, Tokyo, Osaka, and Singapore. These visits, scheduled between July and November, offer exposure to global institutions, events, and decision-makers. Travel expenses for these visits may vary and are generally the responsibility of the participants, depending on individual arrangements.

Upon conclusion of the fieldwork, each participant will submit a comprehensive report detailing their findings. These reports will undergo review by a UNITAR committee between December 2025 and February 2026. Individuals who produce exceptional evaluations may receive an invitation to Geneva, where they will have the chance to showcase their work to an international audience and engage with leaders in global development.

Eligible applicants are young adults aged 18 to 24 who are committed to making a difference in the field of sustainability. Ideal candidates are passionate about development, possess a sense of leadership, have been active in community initiatives, and are fluent in English. They must also have access to a device and internet connection for the duration of the programme and be ready to commit fully, including the submission of a final evaluation report.

Participants who successfully complete the entire programme will receive an official Certificate of Completion issued by UNITAR. There is no fee to join the programme itself, though optional travel for study visits is self-funded. The entire programme is conducted in English. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with the final deadline set for October 31. Outstanding contributors will be given the opportunity to travel to Geneva in early 2026 to present their insights and connect with leaders in the international community.
