About University of Bristol

Before the University of Bristol, there was University College, Bristol University College, Bristol existed from 1876 to 1909 and was the precursor to the University of Bristol. Its history can be traced back to the efforts of John Percival, headmaster of Clifton College, to press for the establishment of such an institution. In 1872, Percival wrote to the Oxford colleges observing that the provinces lacked a university culture. Aim and Benefits of University of Bristol Black Futures Scholarship

Up to 20 awards of £3,500 are available in 2024/25.

The payments are £2,000 in the first year and £750 in the second and third years. We also offer up to £1,000 of funding support for employability opportunities, such as internships, placements or summer research programmes.

For information about the payment schedules from previous years, contact the Futures Scholarships Co-ordinator.

Successful applicants will be enrolled on the Futures Scholarship programme. You will be supported by the Futures Scholarships Co-ordinator to access career guidance and advice on University opportunities for personal and professional development. Recipients are expected to come to periodic meetings with relevant University team members.

These awards are funded by donations from University of Bristol alumni and friends.

Requirements for University of Bristol Black Futures Scholarship Qualification

You can apply if you:

  • have one of the following categories of ethnicity:
    • Black African
    • Black Caribbean
    • Black Other
    • Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
    • Mixed – White and Black African
    • Other mixed background (to include Black African, Black Caribbean or Black Other)
  • are a UK applicant for full-time undergraduate study
  • have an offer (or are awaiting a decision) to study for an undergraduate degree starting in 2024/25
  • can demonstrate financial need.

Students from any subject can apply. Read the full eligibility criteria.

Interview date, Process and Venue for University of Bristol Black Futures Scholarship

You will find out whether your application was successful in early June 2024.
