Pursue your master’s degree in the USA on a Fully Funded scholarship. The University of Hawaii ADB Scholarship is a fully funded program by the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP). It allows students from the ADB developing member countries to undertake a Master’s Degree in approved fields of study at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa (UHM) in the USA. Scholars will also participate in the educational, residential, and leadership development programs at the East-West Center (EWC).

  • Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences (MS): TOEFL, DUOLINGO, or IELTS (EWC and UHM); GRE (UHM only)

Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vietnam.

The Basic Eligibility and the Requirements of the ADB-JSP

Citizenship and Age:

  • You must be a citizen and current resident of an ADB Member country.
  • You must be no more than 35 years old at the time of application.

Academic Background:

  • You must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) at the time of application. This could include:
    • Three-year bachelor’s degree combined with a one-year master’s degree.
    • Two-year bachelor’s degree combined with a two-year master’s degree. (Equivalency is subject to review by the program.)

Work Experience:

  • You must have at least two years of full-time professional work experience after completing your university degree.

English Language Proficiency:

  • You must have taken an English proficiency test within the past two years and achieved a minimum score of:
    • TOEFL (paper-based): 550
    • TOEFL (computer-based): 213
    • TOEFL iBT (internet-based): 79-80
    • Duolingo: 95
    • IELTS: 6.5

Application Process for the University of Hawaii ADB Scholarship?

The application process involves Two Parts:

Part 1 Admission Application: Before submitting the scholarship application, an applicant must have a Proof of admission from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

A separate application (including all required supporting documents) must be submitted to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa for admission into a Master’s degree program.

Party 2 Apply for the ADB Scholarship: Once you have an admission offer, you can apply for the ADB Scholarship at the University of Hawaii. The East-West Center manages applications for the ADB-JSP Scholarship every year.
