Aim and Benefits of University of Southampton Presidential International Scholarship

If your application is successful, we will award you with either:

  • £10,000 off your tuition fees, or
  • 100% off

The amount we award you will depend on your application.

Scholarships for undergraduate study will cover each year of undergraduate study.

Scholarships for postgraduate study will cover the first year of postgraduate study.

There are 25 scholarships available in total, (10 100% fee awards and 15 £10,000 fee awards).

University of Southampton Presidential International Scholarship Courses

Requirements for University of Southampton Presidential International Scholarship Qualification

The Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015 by the United Nations will determine the course of the global social, ecological and economic agenda until 2030. If we are to successfully achieve them, we need to be able to work across traditional disciplines and we therefore encourage scholarship applications from all eligible programmes of study.

We will only consider applicants who have an offer to study at the University of Southampton.

You must:

  • need to pay the overseas tuition fee

You must not be in receipt of any external scholarship

The Southampton Presidential International Scholarship is not available to students studying:

  • on PGCert, PGDip, Foundation or PGR courses
  • on Distance Learning courses
  • with a partner institution
  • at our campus in Malaysia
  • on continuing professional development (CPD) courses
  • undergraduate courses in the Faculty of Medicine and the School of Health Sciences
  • only pre-sessional English – pre-sessional English students with an offer to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level can still apply

Interview date, Process and Venue for University of Southampton Presidential International Scholarship

This is a competitive process and not all applications will be successful.?

There are 5 stages to the shortlisting process. ?

  1. We check that you meet the eligibility criteria.
  2. We score and rank the answers you give on your application form.
  3. We shortlist applicants across all departments to recognise academic excellence in all areas.?
  4. We score your academic qualifications stated on your UCAS or PGT application form.
  5. A scholarship panel, chaired by the Vice President International, will assess your total score.

We may also shortlist applicants from Least Developed Countries, Low Income or Lower Middle Income countries.

The 10 applicants with the highest score will get 100% tuition fee waivers.

The next 15 applicants with the highest score will get £10,000 off their tuition fees.

The decision of the scholarship panel is final.

We cannot accept late applications. If your application is successful, you will receive confirmation in an email with an attached letter.?

The scholarship is open for applicants from w/c 23 October 2023 until 5pm (UK time) on 12 April 2024.

We will contact you with the outcome of your application by the end of May 2024.

As part of your application, you will need to answer 4 questions on how your studies at Southampton can make a contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

  1. Which UN Sustainable Development Goals are relevant to your expected programme of study and why? (100 words maximum, per goal).??
  2. How will your intended programme of study make a contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals? (250 words maximum).??
  3. We are looking for scholars who will use their time at Southampton to achieve the remarkable and build an inclusive world.? How will your future goals and your chosen programme of study at Southampton help you achieve that? (200 words maximum).??
  4. As a Southampton Presidential International scholar how might you act as an ambassador for the University? (200 words maximum).?
