What is the National Higher Education Scholarship?

The National Higher Education Scholarship (Hungary) is a government-backed scholarship program regulated by Act CCIV of 2011 and Government Decree 51/2007. It awards HUF 40,000 per month for 10 months to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and professional excellence.

This highly competitive scholarship is open to full-time students in bachelor’s, master’s, or undivided training programs who have completed at least two semesters and earned a minimum of 55 credits.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

Students from any faculty enrolled in a state-funded or fee-paying full-time program may apply if they:

1. Have completed at least 2 semesters
2. Have earned a minimum of 55 credits
3. Have maintained outstanding academic performance (90%+ average)
4. Engage in scientific, artistic, or sports-related activities
5. Have not received disciplinary action during the academic year
6. Intend to continue their studies during the 2025–2026 academic year

The program also allows parallel applications for a Premium Educational Scholarship if the National Scholarship application is unsuccessful.

Evaluation Criteria

Scholarship applicants are evaluated by faculty committees based on:

1. Academic Excellence (minimum 90% GPA within the faculty)
2. Professional Contributions (research, publications, participation in scientific events)
3. Public and Extracurricular Engagement (sports, community service, cultural achievements – max 10% of total score)

Students must ensure all grades, including retakes, are finalized in the university’s Student Information System before the deadline.
