Minneapolis, Minnesota, Overview University of Minnesota Medical Center is the flagship location for University of Minnesota Health, this position will work on the East Bank campus in Minneapolis which serves an all adult patient population.

This location offers the widest range of hospital and clinical services provided through University of Minnesota Health.

Complete services range from primary care, emergency care and provide care to patients with the most complex conditions.

Areas of specialization include: Solid organ transplant Blood and marrow transplantation Heart disease Cancer We are seeking an RN to join our Operating Room (OR) team which includes surgical technologist, nursing assistants, schedulers, instrument technicians and MD’s .

Surgeries in this unit are team based amongst these specialties: Neurology Thoracic Cardio vascular Vascular Complex ENT Robotics Gynecology Oncology Urology This nursing position works 72 hours every 2 weeks.

Currently, schedule includes:8 hour shifts, weekday call as needed, 1 weekend shift (ususally call) per schedule period.

This position is benefit eligible.

Responsibilities/Job Description Demonstrates the ability to establish an environment of safety for the surgical patient Implements protective measures prior to operative or invasive procedure.

Confirms identity before the operative or invasive procedure Verifies operative procedure, surgical site and laterality Applies safety devices Implements protective measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal, mechanical, electrical and chemical sources.

Performs required counts.

Manages specimen handling and disposition.

Demonstrates the ability to assess, diagnose, implement and evaluate treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological stability of the surgical patient.

Applies principles of aseptic technique while establishing and maintaining sterile fields Performs skin preparations Ensures perioperative environmental sanitation Monitors for wound contamination Classifies the surgical wound May serve as a circulator or scrub during operative procedures.

Demonstrates knowledge about the psychologic, sociologic, and spiritual responses of patients and their families to the operative or other invasive procedure.

Qualifications Required: MN RN licensure required BLS Minimum of 1 year OR RN experience, or completion of an approved Periop 101 program, or approved student experience or 2 years experience as a Surgical Technologist Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing We can recommend jobs specifically for you.
