About the Internship:

GrowAfrica seeks six interns to support Upstream and Advisory projects aimed at reducing operational risks in IFC investment projects. These projects focus on strengthening supply chains, improving food security, and building farmer capacities. Interns will work under the guidance of a Project Leader and Coordinator.

Key Projects:

  1. Agri-commodity Trader Expansion: Enhance sourcing from farmers.
  2. Sustainable Coffee Farming in Uganda: Promote sustainable practices and improve business management.
  3. Agriculture in Angola: Focus on poultry and coffee sectors.
  4. Cotton Sector Revival in Mozambique: Increase productivity through training and reliable supply chains.
  5. Food Security Heatmap: Identify investment opportunities to reduce import dependency in Africa.
  6. World Bank Collaboration: Leverage IFC’s private sector experience to benefit World Bank operations.

Internship Objectives:

The IFC MAS GrowAfrica Intern Program bridges academic knowledge with professional practice, offering a platform for graduate students to transition into careers while contributing to agribusiness development in Africa.

Scope of Assignments:

Interns will:

  • Assist in training farmers and agents on agricultural practices and supply chain management.
  • Support project planning, data collection, and monitoring.
  • Maintain project documents and draft reports.
  • Update risk registers and highlight changes.
  • Establish demonstration sites for participatory learning.
  • Supervise and guide farmers on seed production.
  • Prepare materials for major activities and media outreach.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned.
  • Promote sustainable agro-ecological practices.
  • Develop a heatmap for priority crops.
  • Collaborate with the World Bank on project design and implementation.
  • Facilitate project meetings and field trips.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Master’s or PhD with at least two years of work experience.
  • Specialization in crop science, agricultural economy, agronomy, soil management, or related fields.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Effective communication in multicultural and multilingual environments.
  • Knowledge of African agribusiness challenges and opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media.
  • Independent and team-oriented work skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Remuneration:

  • Working hours: Up to 40 hours per week (max 160 hours/month).
  • Internship stipend: Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Start Date:

June 1, 2024 – July 31, 2024 (minimum two months, maximum six months).

Reporting:

Interns will report to the Project Leader and be supervised by the Project Coordinator.
