Opportunity Description

With the support of Chicago Booth Business School’s Rustandy Center for Social Innovation and the Appalachian State University, the Impact Toolbox organizes the Youth in Development (YID) virtual fellowship. This fellowship program will provide emerging civic leaders and social entrepreneurs with the skills and tools to lead social change initiatives effectively. The program aims to help fellows to create feasible and highly impactful social projects and lead programs transforming their communities’ social and economic settings.

This virtual fellowship trains fellows through mentorship sessions and practical workshops delivered by subject experts worldwide. They also benefit from social innovation training, coaching sessions, and global peer collaborations.

Eligibility Requirements

Some eligibility criteria for YID Fellowship are described below, and the applicants must meet them all. To be eligible applicant must:

  • Be interested in leading a social project and a social sector career
  • Have exceptional ideas or initiative for social change 
  • Be between 19 to 30 years old
  • Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Be available to complete weekly activities and the four-month fellowship and incubation program.

YID Fellowship Stages

YID Fellowship program has five stages from start to end, described below:

  1. Expression of Interest (EOI) Submission: This is an initial application stage where applicants submit an EOI. Applicants will receive a decision notification after 48 hours. 
  2. Online Social Entrepreneurship and Strategy Courses: In this stage, successful applicants will complete five short courses on the platform and attend live virtual sessions. YID Fellowship prerequisites courses include the five steps: 
  • Step one (3 weeks): Impact clarity and strategic planning for social change leaders 
  • Step 2 (2 weeks): Aligning social ventures to SDGs
  • Step 3 (2 weeks): Turning ideas into social enterprises
  • Step 4 (3 weeks): Building viable social ventures and finding market fit
  • Step 5 (2 weeks): Storytelling and marketing for social ventures
  1. Submit Full Application: In stage three, based on the result of the courses and participation in the live sessions, qualified applicants will submit a second stage application by filling out a short form. 
  2. Finalists Announcement: Finalists’ revision will take place on 27 February, and YID Fellows’ results will be announced four weeks later (30 March 2023).
  3. 4-Month Fellowship and Post-Fellowship Benefits: In the last stage, the fellows will participate in an intensive four-month incubation program and online learning experience from May to August 2024.
