Job description
-Reporting to the Pulses and Oil crops program Coordinator Senior Research fellow, the Pulses and Oil Crops Entomologist Associate Research Fellow has the following responsibilities
-Conduct research in all areas related to pests affecting pulses and oil crops
-Collaborate with other researchers at national, regional and international level in writing grant proposals and publications
-Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences relevant to his/her field of research and bring visibility of the institution in local, regional and international forums
-Establish farmer demonstration plots on new developed technologies/innovations
-Annually, assess and report on the productivity of soybean and other major pulses and oil crops established in consolidated areas
-Develop and distribute extension materials and technical guidelines on pests affecting pulses and oil crops
-Provide training to farmers, value chain stakeholders and extension workers on developed technologies/innovations
-Create and organize stakeholders’ innovation platforms
-Hold radio and TV live talks and or documentary films to increase awareness and create demand for use of improved pulses and oil crops and developed technologies/innovations
-Conduct farmer field days and participate in agriculture shows
-Write and contribute to scientific publications on his/her research results
-Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports on his/her research activities carried out
Avoid the misuse of public resources under his/her responsibilities and ensure clean audit report when audit queries are raised

Having at least three (3) years of relevant working experience in Agricultural research and/or extension
-
Having led or contributed to the production and dissemination of twelve (12) extension materials including technical guidelines, documentary films, and other extension materials for innovations aiming to increase farmers’ production, productivity and resilience capacities

Having at least three (3) years of working experience in Agricultural research and/or extension. Having at least one (1) publication as first author and two (2) publications as a co-author in peer-reviewed journals

Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda

Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension

Capacity in project development and resource Mobilization
