Senior Community-Based Protection Assistant in Replacement Capacity at UNHCR Rwanda ( Deadline 23 July 2020)

Duties
– Conduct registration interviews in accordance with local SOPs and registration standards.
– Respond to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR’s registration procedures and their rights and entitlements.
– Maintain accurate and up-to date records and data related to all individual registration cases.
– Identify persons with specific needs and ensure timely referral to protection follow-up as required.
– Collaborate with protection staff and/or partners in the delivery of assistance and programming, including provision of identity and entitlement documentation
– Act as interpreter and translator when needed.
– Refer cases to other units within the office and to implementing partners as necessary.
– Perform other related duties as required.

The Registration Assistant is a member of the protection team and is supervised by Associate Protection Officer. The incumbent is responsible for supporting all activities related to registration, which may also include functions related to reception, filing and data management. S/he responds to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR’s registration procedures and their rights and entitlements. The Registration Assistant liaises with protection staff and partners to ensure timely identification and referral of persons of concern for protection follow up and may provide interpretation and/or translation services in cases for which s/he has the required language competencies.

Duties and Qualifications
Interpreter is a member of protection team and is supervised by Associate Protection Officer.
a) Interpretation
- Interpret protection and resettlement interviews with UNHCR persons of concern from local languages into English and/or French and vice versa.
- Assist colleagues in receiving and making phone calls to persons of concern.
- Interpret interviews and discussions for colleagues in other units with UNHCR persons of concern.
- Undertake field missions in the camps (Kigeme and Mugombwa) and TC to provide interpretation.
b) Translation
Translate documentation and correspondence from local languages into English and/or French and vice versa.
c) Other duties
- Assist colleagues with interpretation in the field, meetings and other areas, as required.
- Assist caseworkers with photocopying documentation presented by persons of concern.
- Undertake field monitoring visits in the camps ( Kigeme and Mugombwa) and TC with aim to identify needs and protection concerns of refugees
- Maintain accurate records of work undertaken and provide reports on a regular basis.
- Travel on mission to camps and urban areas throughout the Rwanda.
- Cover other colleagues¿ duties in their absence.
- Perform any other related duty, as requested.
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
- Education: Completion of secondary school. Any other additional course will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years previous relevant job experience.
- Computer skills (MS Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Ability to speak, read and write Kinyarwanda, Swahili, French and English.
Desirable qualifications & competencies:
- Communication skill.
- Translation skills.
