DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Power Generation & Electrical (PG&E) Technician (Trainee) to ensure that all power generation & electrical systems are well-maintained. The PG&E Technician (Trainee) will work within the Facilities Department to contribute to the smooth running of the Campus facilities, reporting to the PG&E Manager and PG&E Engineers.
The RICA installation is a 1.5 MW solar powered generation facility located in Bugasera District utilizing SMA inverters, Ideematech tracking system, 3MWH LG battery backup, and Caterpillar diesel generators (300KVA x4). The facility also includes several electro-mechanical installations relating to the pumping of water to irrigation systems, as well as commercial buildings with electrical systems installed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the PG&E Manager in the custodial duties, daily maintenance, and repairs of the solar power plant (inc. inspections on frames/mechanical tracking systems, solar panel cleaning, electrical tests on inverters, weather station maintenance).
Independent electrical repair works and maintenance tasks relating to the solar plant and building facilities (wiring, distribution boxes, appliances, generators/pumps).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma (or Solar System/Electrical Certificate).
1-2 years of experience with electrical systems (i.e. electrician, maintenance).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor in Electrical Engineering.
Strong analytical capabilities to troubleshoot and correct issues.

DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Water & Waste Water Systems (W&WWS) Manager to ensure that all water & wastewater systems are well-maintained and continuously monitored, operationally efficient, in compliance with manufacturer warranty/defects liability agreements, and repaired according to manufacturer guidance. The W&WWS Manager will work within the Facilities Department to contribute to the smooth running of the Campus facilities.
The RICA installation includes a water treatment plant (Culligan), sewage treatment plant (Bannow), lake abstraction, mechanical center pivots for irrigation (Zimmatic Pivots), drip irrigation systems, >2km of HDPE pipe systems at >500mm diameter, pumping systems, water storage facilities, and commercial facilities (buildings) with interior plumbing (toilets, piping).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the water & wastewater systems in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
Establish priorities for maintenance, execute preventive maintenance, and supervises the performance of emergency and routine maintenance for water & wastewater installations supporting the campus. Includes compliance to the manufacturer’s guidance on warranty regarding maintenance & repairs..
Coordinate repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections on water systems not related to wastewater treatment, including pump systems and center pivot & drip irrigation systems.
Train and manage plant operating, maintenance and administrative staff; includes quality assurance checks on technician activities/repairs.
Procure parts, materials, services and support resolution of technical issues.
Support comprehensive utility planning, including planning for future uncertainty, setting performance targets and levels of service, and developing capital improvement programs to support identified needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical/water engineering or equivalent.
5 years’ experience in the management of water & wastewater systems including extensive knowledge of machines, equipment, materials and operating practices of a large and complex water treatment plant; a demonstrated ability to organize and supervise water treatment plant technicians.
Knowledge of the chemical and physical processes in the treatment of drinking water governed by Rwanda Standards Bureau (RSB) regarding potable water.
Strong leadership, communication, and technical skills; diligence/attention to details.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; willingness to travel between Bugasera & Kigali on a regular basis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience submitting regular reports on O&M tracking.
Experience managing wastewater treatment plant for WASAC or large-scale residential facility highly desirable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Safety & Security Manager to manage the safety & security of campus assets and personnel. The Safety & Security Manager will work within the Facilities Department to contribute to the smooth running of the Campus facilities, reporting to the Facilities Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Hire, train and manage 24-hour building security guards and security supervisors (or manage sub-contracted security team personnel) to patrol and protect campus facilities.
Partner with the Director in leading and executing all safety and security protocols of the RICA campus and surrounding spaces related to campus life.
Assist in overseeing key access, CCTV operations and any other access control systems, including monitoring and reviewing cameras, tracking and evaluating incident reports.
Conduct interior and exterior building patrols and on-the-spot post inspections to ensure staff is adhering to policy and standards and all building access is maintained and secured at all times.
Create administrative documentation including reports, disciplinary notes, logging entries and build department budget and strategic plans regarding security & safety.
Collaborate with Rwanda National Police (or other government authority) related to security breaches/incidents.
Report on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) incidents and work to ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures on site. This includes working with the contractor’s HSE coordinator onsite during construction to ensure the smooth operation of campus alongside the construction of new assets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or 5 years of hands-on experience in security management.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to speak effectively to large groups or members of the organization
Effective written communication and interpersonal skills to write reports and correspond in a professional manner, read and comprehend safety documents, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Excellent integrity and honesty.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite programs (Excel, Word).
Ability to work extended hours including nights, weekends, on-call status, and holidays as necessary

We are seeking a Vehicle Mechanic to conduct preventive maintenance service and repairs for RICA’s fleet of cars (Toyota). The Vehicle Mechanic will work within the Facilities Department reporting to the Fleet Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct preventative maintenance services on fleet of Toyota vehicles (including changing the oil and oil filter, air filters; in-cabin filters, rotate tires, patch and replace tires; replaces wiper blades; cleaning vehicles interior/exterior with appropriate materials to ensure cars remain presentable).
Stock keeping including managing stock-level of spare parts, submitting requests for additional parts when required, and maintaining a clean/organized work area.
Submit reports to Fleet Manager & Logistics Officer on fuel consumption, mileage, car repairs, and car condition.
Occasional repair and maintenance of generator systems, pumps, small petrol appliances.
Delivery of parts between Kigali & Bugasera campus location.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
5 years of experience conducting maintenance and repairs on Toyota vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Install and configure computer hardware operating systems and applications.
Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks.
Talk staff or clients through a series of actions, either face-to-face or over the phone, to help set up systems or resolve issues.
Troubleshoot system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults and replace parts as required.
Provide support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports follow diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system.
Support the roll-out of new applications, set up new user accounts and profiles and deal with password issues, respond within agreed time limits to call-outs.
Rapidly establish a good working relationship with staff/students.
Act as technical support to students regarding their computer needs on campus.

We are seeking a Building Maintenance Officer to supervise, organise, monitor, audit and control the direct labour of maintenance staff and sub-contracted engineering maintenance staff. The Building Maintenance Officer will work within the Facilities Department to contribute to the smooth running of the Campus facilities, reporting to the Building & Grounds Maintenance Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and manage the condition of campus buildings to ensure the efficient operation of university activities (includes managing maintenance engineer/technician team to ensure a high quality of service delivery at all times). Maintain and repair electrical components (bulbs, wiring, appliances), civil works (plaster, paint, concrete, structural), plumbing (toilets, sinks, interior plumbing).
Be proactive in recognising defects or potential problems and take action, where possible, to maintain a high quality and safe environment.
Receive, prioritize and issue requisitions for breakdown and repair works and monitor progress to completion.
Organise planned maintenance activities on a checklist and schedule, reporting completion to supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management.
Detailed understanding of electrical systems, plumbing systems, and other systems related to building maintenance and repair.
2-3 years experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings (residential, commercial, public).
Experience supervising teams of technicians, and proven experience of stock/inventory control, ordering procedures.
Willingness to live within 5km of RICA Campus in Bugesera, and able to commute to work by bicycle or walking on foot.
Computer literacy (Word, Excel) and writing/reading skills.

The Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA) is a unique and innovative English language undergraduate institution dedicated to preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders of Rwanda and East Africa. DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Power Generation & Electrical Manager (PG&E) to ensure that all power generation & electrical systems are well-maintained and continuously monitored, operationally efficient, in compliance with manufacturer warranty/defects liability agreements, and repaired according to manufacturer guidance. The PG&E Manager will work within the Facilities Department to contribute to the smooth running of the Campus facilities. The RICA installation is a 1.5 MW solar powered generation facility located in Bugasera District utilizing SMA inverters, Ideematech tracking system, 3MWH LG battery backup, and Caterpillar diesel generators (300KVA x4). The facility also includes several electro-mechanical installations relating to the pumping of water to irrigation systems, as well as commercial buildings with electrical systems installed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the solar power generation facility in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
Establish priorities for maintenance, execute preventive maintenance, and supervises the performance of emergency and routine maintenance for solar & electrical installations supporting the campus. Includes compliance to manufacturer’s guidance on warranty regarding maintenance & repairs for solar components.
Coordinate repairs, preventative maintenance and inspections on other non-solar electrical installations supporting campus facility (including wiring, pump systems, distribution lines & junctions etc.) to ensure installation meets national safety codes.
Train and manage plant operating, maintenance and administrative staff; includes quality assurance checks on solar technician activities/repairs.
Procure parts, materials, services and support resolution of technical issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
5 years experience in the management of large-scale (>1MW) solar generation facilities (as O&M Manager, Engineering Manager); including management of engineering teams, PV maintenance, DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
Experience with SMA equipment (i.e. inverters) and SCADA systems required.
Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, I-V Curve Tracing, Meggers, and Ground Fault Detection.
Strong leadership, communication and technical skills; diligence/attention to details.
Valid driver’s license; willingness to travel between Bugasera & Kigali on regular basis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience submitting regular reports on O&M tracking.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Master’s Degree (higher level than Bachelor’s) in electrical engineering or equivalent.
Awareness of national codes (Rwanda) relating to building/electrical safety.
Experience with large-scale lithium-ion battery systems.
Experience with maintenance & operation of large generator systems (e.g. 300KVA).
Strong Analytical and diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct issues.
Ability to read and understand electrical single-line & three-line diagrams/schematics.
