Objective:
To translate written materials from English to Kinyarwanda.
Background
RTP seeks the services of a skilled translator to translate written materials (e.g. training manuals, communications materials etc) in English to Kinyarwanda. The translator will be engaged as a preferred supplier on a 12-month contract, subject to performance and quality of work. Initially, there are five training manuals needing translation immediately. The Translator will also be engaged to translate other written materials as the need arises.
The initial five materials requiring translation are technical training tools that provide teachers with enhanced knowledge and skills in the use of Gender-Responsive Play-Based learning:

Responsibilities
In close collaboration with Program Manager, Education Specialist, and Training Officer the individual consultant will undertake the following duties:
- Ensure the timely delivery of translated manuals from English to Kinyarwanda in publishable quality
- Share draft translation with Right To Play;
- Incorporate suggested changes to the translation;
- Ensure a high quality of work, reflecting the appropriate terminologies as used in education and gender to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of translation;
- Proofread each chapter and ensure the establishment of flowing tones, cohesion, and proper structure.
Duration of initial assignment
The initial translation task of 5 training manuals listed above is expected to be completed within 30 days from the date of award of the assignment. The time of completion of future assignments will be agreed with the consultant as an when the need arises and shall be conducted in a reasonable timeframe.
Selection criteria
The tender committee will evaluate the resume and select a consultant based on a combination of the following:
- Education background in Education or languages.
- Demonstrated experience in translating academic or technical education documents (at least 3 references from previous clients dated within the last 2 years)
- Experience in translating issues related to gender and education
- Track record of successful completion of 3 past assignments.
- Willingness and flexibility to work within the required deadline.
Expertise required
The successful candidate and/or institution will be able to demonstrate skills in:
- At least 3 years’ experience, and expertise, in English to Kinyarwanda translation of technical education documents with recommendations from previous 3 clients dated within the last 2 years.
