Aquaculture and Fisheries Program Coordinator Senior Research Fellow at RWANDA AGRICULTURE AND ANIMAL RESOURCES DEVELOPEMENT BOARD (RAB): (Deadline 21 June 2022)

Reporting to the Head of Animal Resources Innovation and technology transfer Department with the following responsibilities:

– Prepare research proposals in the field of aquaculture and fisheries program aimed at solving community problems and attract internal and external funding for research
– Conduct research in aquaculture and fisheries program in accordance to the existing work plan and available resources.
– Publish research results at national, regional and international levels.
– Collaborate with other researchers in their regular activities in writing reports and publications;
– Enhance the institutional visibility in national, regional and international forums through active participation in meetings, seminars and conferences relevant to field of research
– Ensure scientific mentorship for younger researchers in aquaculture and Fisheries program
– Coordinating Aquaculture and Fisheries Program research and technology transfer activities
– Developing and implementing research and innovation in accordance with approved work plans and budgets
– Ensure the coordination of all activities in the Aquaculture and Fisheries programme
– Planning, monitoring and evaluation of Aquaculture and Fisheries research projects and technology transfer;
– Ensure scientific mentorship for the subordinates and younger researchers;
– Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally;
– Strengthen partnership with institutions, organizations and international in Research/development Aquaculture and Fisheries, with private sector stakeholders, and projects involved in Aquaculture and Fisheries sector in Rwanda;
– Coordinating mobilization of financial resources for research and technology transfer through proposal writing through competitive funding;
– Ensure the capacity building of subordinates, Technical staff and Aquaculture and Fisheries sector actors.
– Initiate platforms for aquaculture and Fisheries stakeholders based their area of expertise;
– Analyze, publish and disseminate research findings;
– Develop competitive research proposals to be submitted to available grants at national, regional and international levels;
– Produce consolidated quarter and annual reports;
– Report to the Head of Department;
– Perform any other tasks requested by seniors

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Animal Sciences

    8 Years of relevant experience

  • PhD in Aquaculture and Fisheries

    8 Years of relevant experience

  • PhD in Limnology

    8 Years of relevant experience

  • PhD in Fisheries Sciences

    8 Years of relevant experience

  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda, English and/or French. Knowledge of all is an added advantage

  • Having led or contributed to the production and dissemination of sixteen (16) extension materials including technical guidelines, documentary films, and other extension materials for innovations aiming to increase farmer’s production, productivity and resilience capacities

  • Having led the generation of at least one (1) innovation or technology for animal resources development

  • Having at least eight (8) years of relevant working experience in research and/or extension. Having led the writing and won at least one (1) project in animal resources development

  • Having authored as first author at least five (5) scientific publications and seven (7) publications as a co-author in refereed journals

  • Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda

  • Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension

  • Capacity in project development and resources mobilization

  • Extensive understanding of the National and International contexts of aquaculture and fisheries production and research, and ability to develop a comprehensive research agenda for aquaculture and fisheries program in line with the national strategic planning framework

  • Proven skills in project and research program management
