About the Connect Internship

In 2014, through funding from VSO International Rwanda, UWEZO initiated the “Connect Program” a 6-month paid internship program for university graduates with disabilities from different disability categories and professional careers.

Between 2015 and 2018, 3 cohorts of 45 youth with different disabilities were placed in various employment institutions ranging from public institutions, international and local NGOs, disability organizations as well as companies.

For the past 3 years, over 100 youth with disabilities have secured employment at different levels as a result of the CONNECT Experience, reference with potential employers, and open job markets.

In addition to CONNECT Experiences since 2018, Over 200 youth with disabilities from 10 districts of Gasabo, Kicukiro, Nyarugenge, Musanze, Nyanza, Huye, Rutsiro, Kirehe, Burera, and Ngororero had the opportunity to serve as volunteers and mentors across various projects implemented by UWEZO for a period of 6 months to 3 years.

Our Impact

To date, more than 100 youth with disability graduates secured employment in their internship, linkage with potential employers, and through acquired employability skills provided by UWEZO and our stakeholders.

These young professionals with disabilities are demonstrating various talents in their attributed responsibilities as well as challenging systemic barriers, societal institutional barriers limiting full and effective participation of youth with disabilities in the mainstream workforce.
