BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. WFP Rwanda works in partnership with the Government and other stakeholders through the direct implementation of integrated programmes targeting the most vulnerable people and will progressively shift towards building national capacity to formulate, manage and implement programmes for achieving zero hunger. In implementing its activities, WFP will bridge the humanitarian–development nexus and leverage its extensive experience and the contributions it has made in Rwanda over many decades in order to achieve five strategic outcomes:
- Refugees and returnees in Rwanda have access to adequate and nutritious food at all times.
- Vulnerable populations in food-insecure communities and areas have improved access to adequate and nutritious food all year.
- Children under 5, adolescents and pregnant and nursing women and girls in Rwanda have improved access to nutritious foods and services that enable them to meet their nutrition needs all year.
- Smallholder farmers, especially women, have increased marketable surplus and access to agricultural markets through efficient supply chains by 2030.
- The Government of Rwanda and the humanitarian community is provided with adequate, timely, cost-efficient and agile supply chain services and expertise necessary to effectively respond to emergency crisis.
This internship position will be based in WFP Rwanda, Karongi Field Office and the job holder will work under the direct supervision of the Head of Field Office. At this level, the job holder will be expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiatives to respond independently to various queries across all field operations and all SOs. The job holder will be responsible to document all FO operations including refugee operations, Social Protection, and resilience projects, HGSF programme and Small Holder Agriculture and market support related project with focus on monitoring current initiatives on linkage of schools to farmers.

- Address succession plan challenges
- Strategically attract and source young talent
- Give graduates an opportunity to work in the humanitarian sector – Employer Brand
- Build our national talent pipeline in functional areas and locations identified as difficult to attract females
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Monitor and document the implementation of all activities under FO operations and projects including those implemented by WFP and those implemented by WFP cooperating partners.
- Collect and summarize programme(s) data, collaborating with implementing partners where required, conduct analysis and prepare reports in order to support programme reviews and inform decision-making.
- Liaise with implementing partners and key stakeholders to gather feedback and comments to support programme reviews and improve services
- Within the specific area of responsibility, prepare a range of reports and data analysis (e.g., programme status, performance) and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.
- Promote the creativity and innovative culture across all programmes within the FOs. Support and document the new initiative/pilot of farmers linkages to schools for market solutions
- Ensure the gender, protection, and AAP (accountability to affected population) are integrated while monitor the implementation of WFP project and including the reports from CPs are showing gender transformation aspects.
- Document all achievements, gaps and challenges from FOs across all units and from our CPs and share monthly bulletin/FO image.
- Liaise with the field office team, partners and other stakeholders, prepare and share contextual information to explain outcome and process monitoring indicators, particularly deviations from target (if any) on a quarterly basis to project team at WFP CO.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
- Monthly FO bulletin highlighting FO operations, WFP resources, projects achievements, gaps, and challenges.
- Gender, protection, and AAP (accountability to affected population) are integrated in all FO implemented activities and reports highlight gender transformation and protection to beneficiaries.
- Farmers to schools’ linkages initiative or pilot is documented and scaled up.
REPORTING: To the Head of Field Office
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/master’s degree programme from a recognized University in international business and trade, Agriculture and Agri business
- Completed at least two years of the programme from a recognized University, with a 12-month attendance University in international business and trade, Agriculture and Agri business
- Recently graduated from a bachelor’s or master’s programme in the last twelve months University in international business and trade, Agriculture and Agri business
Experience:
- Not a mandatory requirement, but internship in similar capacities would be a plus
Knowledge &Skills:
- Displays capacity to provide inputs into the development, implementation, and realignment of the programme
Languages:
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of Kinyarwanda is an asset.
