BACKGROUND
The Peace Corps is an independent U.S. Government agency that sends American volunteers around the world to aid countries in fulfilling their development needs. The three goals of the Peace Corps are:
To help the people of interested countries in meeting their needs for trained men and women;
To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of peoples served;
To help promote a better understanding of other people on the part of Americans.
The Peace Corps currently operates in 65 countries, with over 7,000 American volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
Peace Corps originally opened its program in Rwanda in 1974, working for 20 years before closing its offices in 1994. It reopened its program in 2008 and Peace Corps Volunteers are currently working in two sectors (Education and Health). We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is a team player and self-starter with moral integrity to fill this vacancy.
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager/Health (PM/Health), the Program & Training Assistant/Health (PTA/Health) provides support in management of the PC/Rwanda Maternal and Child Health program, including a combination of program support, training support and direct volunteer support. The PTA/Health actively contributes to the overall direction and achievement of the Peace Corps program in country. Specifically, the PTA/Health works with the PM/Health to ensure that the goals and objectives of the Maternal and Child Health program are achieved, meeting the expectations of the Rwanda Ministry of Health and the needs identified by the communities in which volunteers serve. In collaboration with the PM/Health and Training Manager (TM), the PTA/Heath plans, prepares, and implements timely support for, and training of, Maternal and Child Health Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs). PTA/Health assistance to the PM/Health and TM includes monitoring and evaluating results of PCV site level interventions, making recommendations, and implementing sound and appropriate strategies to strengthen programmatic and/or training efforts as necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Knowledge of Rwandan health system and structure. Knowledge of development theory and the Rwandan development context. Knowledge of Peace Corps mission, goals, and program. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and training methodologies. Knowledge of project monitoring, reporting and evaluation. Knowledge of supervisory techniques.
Education: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in health, social sciences, development studies, or related field.
Prior Work Experience: Three or more years of experience in Public Health or international development. Significant experience working with international staff to design, implement and manage health programs and training. Experience in implementing cross-cultural community development projects, as well as significant experience in training adults.
Language Proficiency:
Strong English (written and spoken)
Fluent Kinyarwanda (written and spoken)
Abilities and Skills: Strong interpersonal skills/relationships with colleagues, PCVs, supervisors and partners. Ability to give technical advice in support of PCV activities; ability to design and facilitate technical training sessions; excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively in both writing and speaking.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Starting at RWF 12,363,417 per annum, negotiable based on salary history and experience. Competitive benefits package included.
