Opportunity Description

The Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism 2024/25 is now accepting applications. The Knight-Bagehot Fellowship offers journalists the chance to deepen their understanding of journalism’s business and increase their awareness and knowledge of business, economics, finance, and technology.
For two semesters, fellows attend classes at the Columbia Business School for most of their coursework. The fellows get together once a week for exclusive seminars and lunches with well-known writers, business owners, and executives.

Benefits

  • Free tuition, health insurance, and a stipend to help with living expenses in New York City are provided to each fellow.
  • Fellows will receive a salary of $60,000 plus health insurance for the school year. They can submit an application for supported housing in a building connected to Columbia.
  • In this academic program, fellows attend classes and receive grades for their assignments.
  • Each fellow chooses their own set of business and journalism studies, and the group meets once a week for a lecture and dinner.
  • Three academic programs serve as a guide for those choices.
  • Obtaining a Certificate in Business and Economics Journalism can be done on one of two routes.
  • A Master of Arts in Journalism is the outcome of the third program.

Eligibility

  • The application process is open to full-time editorial staff members of newspapers, periodicals, wire services, digital media, television, and radio news organizations, and independent journalists worldwide.
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited university and at least four years of experience in business, economics, or financial journalism.
  • Even while Americans make up the bulk of the fellows, they specifically look for individuals who can help improve business journalism in other regions.
  • The applicant must be fluent in English. (Score on the TOEFL 114 or an IELTS of 8.0)

  • A polished resume.
  • An essay on one’s life that is no longer than 1,000 words.
  • A no more than 500-word essay on “Why Knight-Bagehot.”
  • Five examples of original work.
  • Transcript from a college or institution (s).
  • Three recommendation letters.
